Coffee, Japanese flavour and Christmas motif
|
|
Went to Bugis mall for dinner with friend and found many shops imbued with a Japanese cheer.
Juxtapose this with all-American coffee at Starbucks and the traditional commercially simulated decor of Christmas at colonial Raffles Hotel.
Throw in some rain and neon signs and big screen billboard displays along the streets, and what do you get as the common denominator?
Lights and colour.

The angel with a scar on the nose.
Moments captured of Nyala from the day after she arrived in late August right up to today- in different moods and stages of growth. from curiously navigating the toilet seat to playfully holding her own against big brother Trigger to restful contemplation.
We had crossed paths one night back in late August under the most fateful circumstances outside the most popular club in Singapore and next to 4 lanes of heavy traffic. She was there mysteriously, less than 2 months old, intrepid and already scarred from what seems to be a battle wound from a feline bully.

This afternoon- met up with a tech expert friend for yet another computer gadget rescue session, before visiting the temple again to see it in at dusk in the cover of stormy clouds. Walked on further to converse with the neighbourhood cats as well, and ended up caught in the glorious rain.

Stranded miles from home after missing the last train, I took the last bus of the night that traveled an unfamiliar route, eventually bringing me quite a distance from my destination. The view of a modest old Chinese temple past midnight made the detour and final walk home worth it.
That was a brief respite before working straight through the night upon coming back- no rest for the wicked, not when they are rushing to meet a deadline.

At the start and closing of the day- party and champagne dinner!
|
|
At the stroke of midnight, dropped by a club for a friend's birthday celebration. Aside from the detached bright-eyed and sober observer here, most everyone else was hyped up and tipsy on lethal cocktails and beer, if not downright smashed, in particular the birthday boy.
The walk back home from the club after closing time was rejuvenating and just the cure for the pounding music resonating through the head.
Less than 18 hours later- another round of dinner and drinks with another friend, this time at fancier digs with softer music surrounded by french accents- a swanky french restaurant at Club Street, where restored shophouses reside. Dinner came complete with candles and veal and 4 varieties of champagne. The occasion being a visit by the winemaker herself. A hushed dinner and much champagne indulgence later, we proceeded onto another round of french wine at yet another restaurant. I went home with a bottle of rose champagne, thanks to my friend's generosity.

Yesterday was spent taking in the sights, sounds and smells of the nearby wet market and its surroundings. Night was spent in a harried state of panic as I lugged laptop and peripherals to my friend's aunt's place a few blocks away to get my friend's computer savvy friend, who happened to be there, to solve a technical bug. It soon became surreal as the friend's friend, whom I barely knew, played my computer till it hummed with pleasure, while he underwent a hair-dyeing treat given by my friend's aunt, in between devouring chocolates. All past midnight.

Profile of Blk 57
|
|
Green, marbly glass windows, modernist lines of architecture derived from Art Nouveau.
By night and by day, there is a certain quiet splendour and nostalgic quality to this apartment building, Blk 57, built during the WWII era at least.

Encountered many train stations today, crossed paths with many more people from all corners of the island as I travelled in all directions from town to Chinatown to Choa Chu Kang for a leisurely and patiently cooked dinner of my favourite dishes- stinky beans, bittergourd soup, durians and jambalat! Joined in for a spell of fragrant jambalat session at the carpark with friends who handed out gifts of the fruit to their neighbours and all lamented the loss of the kampung camaraderie where doors were never closed, everyone knew everyone else and would gather after dinner to chat and listen to the radio or the crickets singing.
Still, it's not so bad now- the enterprising and adventurous can still hop on a bicycle and explore the nearby woods at CCK and pick gorgeously pungent jambalat fruit which otherwise is rarely found in this cosmopolitan city nation. And reliving these moments of simple pleasure, it would be as if time had never passed.

Deserted streets, Hari Raya festivities, chick-bonding massage!
|
|
Day started off dead quiet in my usually bustling neighbourhood. Even the food stalls were not open.
But it picked up as I strolled over to a friend's place for 2 tables-ful of home-cooked gourmet delights in colourful celebration of Hari Raya Puasa.
Crowned it off with a Sex-and-the-City session- just 4 girls who've known one another since the crisis of puberty getting together at one of their apartments for a Cosmopolitan (the mag not the drink) and a traditional malay massage for 2 of the 4. It was a virgin massage for us both, so NO PICTURES were allowed to interrupt this sacred rites of passage.
And by night-time, my neighbourhood had come alive again.
Ahhh....

A cat's life
|
|
Today is about Trigger. Domestic feline wild at heart.
He traverses the home turf, jumping from the highest cupboards to the kitchen floor, and finds himself in all sorts of positions. His favourite place at the end of the day, though, is the bed.
